Receiving, hanging and caring for an original painting

FRUIT BOWL, acrylic on canvas by Doris Waelchli Giraud

An original acrylic painting is sturdy, but its raised textures call for a few precautions. Here are the simple steps to know.

On delivery

  • Unpack the work lying flat, on a clean, clear surface.
  • Do not use a box cutter near the canvas; cut the packaging along the edges.
  • Keep the packaging until you have checked that everything is in order.

Hanging

  • Place the centre of the painting at eye level, usually between 1.45 and 1.55 m from the floor.
  • For large formats, use two hanging points.
  • Choose a dry wall, away from direct sunlight, radiators and fireplaces.

Care

  • Dust with a wide, soft brush, always dry.
  • Never use water or household cleaning products on the painted surface.
  • Avoid damp rooms such as bathrooms.
