From travels to canvas

Blue Savanah, acrylic on canvas by Doris Waelchli Giraud

Over the course of her career, Doris Waelchli Giraud has travelled to India, Haiti, the Philippines, Costa Rica and Japan, and across Europe and Switzerland. Today these journeys feed her painting as much as her cooking.

Painting light

In the series Peindre la lumière (Painting Light), she returns to the landscapes of her travels and the emotions they carry. Each painting in it is the impression of a moment:

  • deep blues for the sea, movement and the unknown;
  • oranges and reds for sunsets seen in different countries;
  • thick textures for the strength of nature and its changes.

Some canvases take in a fragment of everyday life, a leaf or a plant; others depict peaceful, imaginary interiors. Doris speaks of an inner journey: translating into paint what words cannot quite say.
